Wecome to Volatile Training

Welcome to Volatile Training, the biggest source for mParticles and Advanced Data Manipulation tutorials for 3dsmax, use the top categories to browse by toolset.

So far 51 tutorial and mini bundles are in stock! Besides new tutorials the body of work is taken from my two TurboSquid DVDs (http://www.turbosquid.com/FullPreview/index.cfm/ID/520846). The tutorials have been optimized for digital download and enhanced in sound quality. If you already have purchased any of my DVDs browse the site for new stuff 🙂 we just added a brand new Thinking Particles tutorial.

If you liked a tutorial maybe tweet about it 😉 use hash tags #3dsmax, #volatiletraining, #pflow or #mParticles or tag twitterID: ars_incendii 🙂

RayFire Tracer and Thinking Particles (little FumeFX)

RayFireTracer_TP

This tutorial shows you how to setup and simulate a street crumble using the RayFire Tracer tool as well as Thinking Particles and FumeFX. Learn how to prepare fast trace maps from texture reference and how to bring all this into TP and set up a crumble system that is stackable. Set up small procedural detail debris from crack edges as well as dynamically spawned particles for FumeFX to simulate dust upon breaking. The video is 84 minutes long in 1280×720 WMV format and the download features the final max file as well as the trace map that was used.

Advanced Data Manipulation (Toolbox #3) – Control by Proxy Particles (partice parenting with Box#3)

Box3_19_ControlByProxyParticles

The formerly known PFlow Toolbox#3 is now integrated into 3dsmax 2014 and called “Advanced Data Manipulation”. This tutorial shows how to use a particle system to control another particle system. This is a neat way to control bird flocking for example by just using very few particles. This can be used for some sophisticated nanomite type setups. The initial motion basics are taken from the SpeedByGradient tutorial from the “Gradient KungFu” set.

The video is 9 minutes long in 1280×720 WMV format and the download features the start and final setups, as well as screen shots.

Advanced Data Manipulation (Toolbox #3) – Shape control (Control Max modifiers by Box#3)

Box3_16_ShapeControl

The formerly known PFlow Toolbox#3 is now integrated into 3dsmax 2014 and called “Advanced Data Manipulation”. Learn how to manipulate modifiers in 3dsmax through particle data. With shape control and object parameter sub operators you can read data from a max modifier and in reverse put values out of Box#3 into a modifier like a morph target percentage based on particle distance. As a practical example this more advanced tutorial sets up a fort with guards that duck down as arrows approach blending from one morph target to another. The bonus scenes cover approaching boulders and bend angle breaking triggers.

Advanced Data Manipulation (Toolbox #3) – Animated Collision Objects

Box3_14_AnimatedCollisionObjects

The formerly known PFlow Toolbox#3 is now integrated into 3dsmax 2014 and called “Advanced Data Manipulation”. This tutorial teaches how to set up an animated collision object without mParticles (former Toolbox#2). The old legacy UDeflector will only detect an animated shape at it’s state of impact and not update the animation of the shape to PFlow. To counteract this flaw get this tutorial 🙂

Advanced Data Manipulation (Toolbox #3) – Influence by Distance

Box3_13_InfluenceByDistance

The formerly known PFlow Toolbox#3 is now integrated into 3dsmax 2014 and called “Advanced Data Manipulation”. Learn how to influence values of your particles like size by distance to other objects or helpers. Normalize the values for smooth animated growth e.g.

Advanced Data Manipulation (Toolbox #3) – Force Influencer (Influence by Size, etc.)

Box3_12_ForceInfluencer

The formerly known PFlow Toolbox#3 is now integrated into 3dsmax 2014 and called “Advanced Data Manipulation”. This tutorial goes over how to use Box#3 with legacy forces in PFlow. et the forces influence your particles by Size and other parameters. Great trick to add randomness and variety to a wind e.g. or blow small leaves faster and further 🙂

Advanced Data Manipulation (Toolbox #3) – Lock/Bond

Box3_11_PositionObjectLock

The formerly known PFlow Toolbox#3 is now integrated into 3dsmax 2014 and called “Advanced Data Manipulation”. This tutorial teaches how to recreate basic features of the Lock/Bond test in PFlow. This stripped version is much faster and faster then the old position object operator.

Advanced Data Manipulation (Toolbox #3) – Align to Object/Normals

Box3_10_AlignToObject

The formerly known PFlow Toolbox#3 is now integrated into 3dsmax 2014 and called “Advanced Data Manipulation”. This tutorial shows you how to align shapes to other objects by normals, etc. This technique is much faster then speed by surface and rotation combo hacks in “vanilla” pflow.

Advanced Data Manipulation (Toolbox #3) – Random KungFu (Undertanding the Random SubOperator)

Box3_09_RandomKungFu1

The formerly known PFlow Toolbox#3 is now integrated into 3dsmax 2014 and called “Advanced Data Manipulation”. This tutorial goes over a very powerful sub operator called “Random”. Learn your KunFu with Random which allows you to add randomization to any value but it’s true power is the 3d random noise for advanced random positioning on objects and in world space.

The video is 13 minutes long in 1280×720 WMV format and the download features the start and final setups, as well as screen shots and a bonus scene.
